Be smart, play clever, and become versed in craps the proper way!
Dice and dice games date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Current craps come about from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s horsemen enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when exiled by the English, the French headed south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and all over the country. A great many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he developed the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
